Today I met Roberta Droescher and her large, complicated, and eternally loving ¬†family. Roberta spent much of her life struggling with drugs and alcohol, but cleaned up after she had her daughters. “Once I was blessed with my children, that’s the only high I ever needed,” she said. She has become sober and a well-respected member of the Ponca tribe community in Lincoln. But now she lives with three kinds of cancer. Though her cancer made her extremely exhausted today, she pushed through for her daughter Savannah’s eleventh birthday party. “I did my bad and I’m trying to do my good now,” she said.
